Blogging from Word2007

Posted on Thursday, July 20th, 2006 at 19:42 in blog No Comments »

I know this sounds funny but blogging form Word 2007 is quite easy to set up.

There are a couple of problems with the beta implementation of Word but they are easily over come:-

  • Categories don’t work yet, posts get posted to the default category.

  • Upload of images doesn’t work.

  • The timestamp has an odd ‘function’ it will only post to 1am 01/01/1970

Ok that’s 3 problems but to have spell checking and the ability to save posts to your computer before publication does appeal. I’ve also encountered another problem which is I had to check the registry to ensure the URL used is correct before it would let me publish, but I think that was due to me letting Word try and work out how to do it.

But it works now, in fact I wrote this entry in Word before uploading.

You can also edit previous posts (Word based or added online) within Word too, so I’m off to see if I can edit the timestamps there.

Where did the site go?

Tuesday 18th July this site disappeared off the net and off the radar, for some reason only 4 months after renewing the domain & hosting package the DNS entries were changed and the site no longer pointed to the host…

Gone, but thanks to a friend he emailed be to tell me. I emailed the host (hosting-unlimited) and raised a trouble ticket for them to see if they could sort it out.

UPDATE:

The site is back (obviously!) This was just due to a problem with the domain & hosting getting out of sync.

phishing for luckies?

I must be lucky. Today I received my first ever phishing email, I’m not kidding I’ve not had any before today, and I’ve got quite a few email accounts.

I was quite happy to see that a bank had updated it’s SSL servers, but then I thought, I’ve not got a bank account with Nationwide.

Nice try phishers!

Wireless warliss

Posted on Friday, July 7th, 2006 at 19:04 in blog No Comments »

I’ve finally done it, I’ve got a laptop and wireless router for chez warliss. The laptop is a nice budget model from aria.co.uk with an excellent battery life, just the thing for the commute to work. God only knows what I’ll do with it… I’ve been playing Spider Solitaire on it mainly… must install some software.

The router is a 108g model, not sure how they came up with that figure. So I’ve spent time trying to lock it down… Then realising that I’d not got the drivers installed properly…

And I call myself a geek!

Update:
I’ve been suffering with signal loss whilst connecting to the internet from the laptop, and I’ve struggled to find much, but low and behold yesterday google came through. All I needed to do was to change the channel that my router broadcast on.

Now no signal loss…
