Computer ups and downs

Well a lot has happened since I was last able to post. I’ve updated my computer twice. Firstly I have a superb 19” tft flat panel monitor which makes working so much easier.

I’m surprised by how much extra deskspace I have available now, both in real terms and virtually.

Secondly I’m the proud owner of a Athlon64. I won’t go into the full specification of my computer here but it’s leaps and bounds better than the old one.

Thirdly, NTL are ace arn’t they? I have had no problems with the service they provide but they don’t seem to communicate with their customers well. I had the 300kbps service, which worked very well and I’ve not really had problems with, for a few years now so I thought I’d bite the bullet and pay a little extra for a 1mbps service. I was upgrading on their site which cheerfully told me that I could upgrade for free.

Free!

My kind of price. It just left me thinking that maybe they could have informed their customer base as to this. But no. On second thoughts I was paying over the odds for a limited service. Will I ask for my money back. Nah. Fast internet for no extra cost. But I was thinking of changing ISPs to get a better deal.

The next thing is a little tragic. I lost data… 8Gb of it… :-( I’m not too sure how, but it’s definately gone, my emails and address book are the main things missing.

Will I learn from it? Probably not, back-up I just haven’t got the time (or perhaps the inclination) to do it.

So thats been my computer ups and downs…

As a side note, I’m typing this via Mozilla Firefox on an Ubuntu live disk for 64 bit processors… Geeky or what? Maybe, but it’s working.

Charlie?

I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory earlier today, what an fantastic film. I thought that Johnny Depp was just right for the role of Willie Wonka and the all-together darker style beat the original film. But what do you expect from Tim Burton all of his film that I’ve seen have a darker more Gothic side to them.

I thought that Mr Depp looked very odd, but in a way that reminded me of a young Freddy Mercury, don’t know why.

If you’ve not seen it, do so. It’s good.

IMPS - The Relentless

I’ve just downloaded and watched the first chapter of this Star Wars fan film and it’s pretty damn good. This make the Imperial Troops seem more real (almost more human.)

Take a look; it’s worth the 200+mb download. IMPS - The Relentless
