Walking home today I thought I could smell something burning… I went on my usual way and passed an alleyway and thought there was a little bit of smoke so I put it down to that… How wrong could I be (usually very!)

When down my street I walked passed another alley, very close to my house and there were a couple of my neighbours looking, from the opposite side of my street over the houses.

There was thick black, acrid smoke billowing up into the air from the general direction of an old, disused food processing factory. (more…)

I’ve just made a slight update to the site, it’s the inclusion of breadcrumb type navigation at the top of the page.

Handwritten. By me… Just got a slight thing to alter, it currently displays exactly what is in the URL I think I’d like it to make it more human readable, less hyphens.

But you don’t get it all in one go…

Restoration and a new look

The seventh incarnation of warliss.com is finally here, it’s hot off the presses today (well hot off my laptop!) as are a few new entries in the blog.

I’ve, also, spent a few hours restoring old (pre-WordPress) blog entries to the site, so now there is no year long gap. The only way I’ve been able to do this is manually adding the post and editing the time stamp accordingly.

I’ve sourced most of the articles/posts from the Wayback Machine, this is a very good resource, but is no real alternative to making proper backups.

That is the real lesson I’ve learnt from this exercise. Must take backups of the MySQL tables.

Things to do before rolling out warliss.com to the latest version:- 1. I need to find out if I can miss out certain categories on the front page. 2. Merge the data from the live site with all the updates made on the testing server. 3. Tweak the design to make sure there are no holes in it.

Then release…

Categories in WP

I’ve been fiddling around and trying to port 2 seperate blogs (the real online one and the testing one on my laptop) just by importing the posts. Something I’ve noticed with the back end of WP is the inability to manage which categories posts are under for multiple posts, you can change them one by one but not en-masse.

I’ll have to take a look for a plugin that provides this functionality or suggest this for inclusion in the next version of WP.
